Cristiano Ronaldo broke a record set by Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer some 22 years ago after scoring the winner in the 2-1 victory over Villarreal.

Ronaldo’s last-minute winner for Manchester United against Villarreal is the club’s latest Champions League goal.

Ronaldo’s goal was scored on exactly 94 minutes and 13 seconds

Beating Solskjaer’s 93rd minute winner against Bayern Munich in the Champions League final in 1999.

And it wasn’t the only record Ronaldo broke on Wednesday.

He also became the first man to make 178 appearances in the Champions League.

‘This is why I came back – I miss this club a lot, Ronaldo told BT Sport.

‘I have history with this club and I want to do it again, not only for me but to push the team,’.

‘If we did not get the (three) points today, it would be tough to go through to the next stage,’ he said.

‘But now everything is possible, everything is open and we believe we’ll go through.’
