Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has slammed his team-mates for ‘playing like kids’ after they were thrashed 5-0 by Liverpool at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils were humiliated by their bitter rivals in their own back yard in a humbling defeat

Thanks to an opening Naby Keita strike, a second from Diogo Jota and a Mohamed Salah hat-trick.

De Gea has enjoyed a renaissance between the posts this season

But he could do little to stop Liverpool’s four-goal blitz in the first-half before conceding a fifth after the break.

The Spaniard was brutally honest about United’s horror showing as he sympathised with fans.

‘We play like kids,’ admitted the goalkeeper after the game, via The Mirror.

He later penned a message to the Old Trafford faithful on Instagram, saying: ‘I feel the pain of our supporters”

“You give the team everything and we must do the same. I love this club and we will not accept this performance”.

United left the pitch at the interval to a cacophony of boos

However, hundreds of fans began pouring out of Old Trafford early in the second half.

Meanwhile, the travelling Liverpool fans enjoyed their trip down the M62 as they gleefully taunted Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with a sarcastic rendition of ‘Ole’s at the wheel’ and chants of ‘Ole must stay’.
