However,  Besiktas goal five minutes from time ensured a nervy finish to the encounter start

Despite the immense talent on show for Marco Rose’s side (including Erling Haaland, Donyell Malen and Marco Reus)

it was the youngest player on the pitch who made the breakthrough for Dortmund.

Jude Bellingham, a man quickly becoming a household name to both Premier League and England fans alike

Ran onto a pass from full-bac Thomas Meunier before firing the ball past a hapless goalkeeper to give his side the lead midway through the first half.

It did not end there either for the Englishman

who broke past two challenges before putting the ball on a plate for Erling Haaland to stroke in a second goal for Dortmund.

On a night where records tumbled for Jack Grealish and Ajax’s Sebastien Haller

it was Bellingham who broke perhaps the most impressive one.

In netting the opener, the teenager surpassed wunderkind Kylian Mbappe as the youngest player to ever score in consecutive Champions League games, at the tender age of just 18 years and 78 days.

It is a mark of his immense talent that Bellingham possesses that he has managed to nail down a place in Dortmund’s starting XI at such a young age, having started every Bundesliga game so far this season and beginning in their Champions League bow.

For the Englishman, the sky appears to be the limit.
