Fabrizio Romano has claimed on his YouTube channel that Chelsea will finalize the signing of Marc Cucurella today.

The transfer saga surrounding the Brighton man accelerated rapidly yesterday, with many media outlets reporting that the deal was done.

However, Brighton put out a statement on their official Twitter to state that they have not come to an agreement with any club for the Spaniard.

With unsettling flashbacks to deals already missed this summer, it is likely that supporters began to have a sinking feeling that the deal could slip away from them.

Despite this, Romano is insistent that the deal is completed, claiming Cucurella will be having his medical today.

Chelsea to announce Cucurella today

He said: “They have reached a full agreement with Brighton after a long and not so easy negotiation. Brighton has been really tough in this story because they wanted to protect one of the best players on their team. But now, it’s all done. Agreement for £52.5m, this is the fee.

“Levi Colwill will be part of the deal, he will join Brighton on a permanent deal. Potter wanted him, and the Brighton board wanted him to be included, but Chelsea will have a buyback clause.

“Work in progress for Colwill, but Cucurella, here we go! The deal is set to be completed on Thursday morning, with the player to undergo medical tests.”

Blues fans are likely to appreciate any signing this close to the start of the new season, however, they should be excited about the impact the 24-year-old can have on their squad.

His versatility can see him operate in left-center-back or left-wing-back, with his attacking ability on a show for the Seagulls in a stellar first season in the Premier League.

Supporters concerned that a center-back role would be too limiting for Cucurella would do well to remember Antonio Rudiger’s marauding forward runs last season, with the system allowing him to underlap from that role.
