Newcastle is close to signing Man United star in the January window
A recent report has credited new-money Newcastle United with an interest in Manchester United’s Anthony Martial.
Anthony Martial has endured a difficult couple of seasons at Manchester United.
Signed from AS Monaco back in 2015, the now 25-year-old has failed to live up to the hype
However, that surrounded him when he was first brought to Old Trafford.
Martial started his United career largely being used as a left-winger.
However, more recent years have seen him deployed as a center-forward.
2020/21, for example, saw Martial used as Man United’s main striker for a good chunk of the campaign as Edinson Cavani had injury issues.
However, though he featured in 22 of the Red Devils’ 38 league ties before getting injured, he would only score four goals.
And Martial’s goal return has not been great so far this season either.
The Frenchman has made seven appearances across all competitions for the Manchester outfit
Scoring just one goal and providing no assists in the process.
Newcastle eye Martial
As a result, it was not too surprising to see Euro Sport last month that Old Trafford officials have given Martial’s representatives the green light to look for a new club
Now, as mentioned above, it appears that a potential suitor for Martial has emerged.
Stretchy News report that Newcastle United’s recruitment team have already made contact with him
The source claimed the possibility of signing Martial in January.
They also claim the Red Devils are willing to allow Martial to depart and will demand as close to the £54m they originally paid for him, as possible.
But given his decline in form and potential, it does seem unlikely Man United will get anywhere close to that sum.
