Not many players get to play at the top level until their forties.

This surely won’t be an ordinary feat, not even for the greatest of all time.

Cristiano Ronaldo has lasted nearly two decades playing at the highest level of his career

And it has also taken years of dedication and hard work.

At age 36, Ronaldo is still a beast of a striker, and has taken to life in the Premier League with relative ease.

Ronaldo is scoring goals for fun and is still breaking records at this age. But how far can Ronaldo go?

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Ronaldo has what it takes to play until 40 due to the way he takes care of his body.

Asked how long the Portugal international could go on, he said;

“I wouldn’t be surprised if he still played when he was 40, not at all, because of the way he looks after himself”

“That’s the key to it – and of course some genes. There must be some genes as well, some DNA in there”

“He has put every single ounce of energy and effort into becoming the player he is and has been”

“so he deserves every single little plaudit that he gets for his physical state.

“What’s more impressive is when you have achieved as much as he has, he’s still as hungry”

“His mentality is still absolutely spot-on and that’s a desire from inside that he’s going to keep going until his head says, ‘no, I’ve given everything now”

“Hopefully it will last a few more years. Linford Christie was quite an age when he won his gold as well (Christie won the Olympic 100m in 1992 at the age of 32), so age is never a problem.”

Ryan Giggs featured for Manchester United beyond his 40th birthday and Manchester United legend Teddy Sheringham

still holds the record as the oldest outfield player to feature in a Premier League match at 40 years old and 272 days.

How far can Cristiano Ronaldo go? Are we set for another record?
